Blair, Richard S
1838-1910; e.m. 1861

PM minister, born 2 October 1838 at Alwert Mills near Darlington. Between 1871 and his retirement to Romford in 1904, he expanded PM work in east London and into Essex. His aggressive ministry saw an expanding membership, an increase in Sunday school scholars and the erection of new chapels (including Canning Town and Upton Park), as well as new circuits being formed. He represented East Ham (South) on the Essex County Council and served both on the East Ham and West Ham School Boards. He wrote a number of works, including two on his ministry: Reaching the Masses; or, ten years experience of mission work in East London (1884) and Nailing up the Old Barn (Chapel) Door and what became of it (1894). He died on 29 April 1910.
