Mole, Bob
1927-2010

Methodist local preacher and prison governor, the son of a miner, was born at Herrington, Co Durham on 14 October 1927, and educated at Houghton-le-Spring Grammar School. He first worked as a clerk at Washington Chemical Works before joining the Navy in 1945. Between 1947 and 1961 he worked first for the local authority and at Washington for the National Coal Board. He joined the Prison Service in 1961 and subsequently became a prison governor at Northallerton, Leicester and Frankland. He was described as 'a man of great integrity, with clear Christian principles… firm, steady and reliable, with a simple, commonsense approach.' He died on 29 June 2010. .
