Known as Leo, he was born in Birmingham and educated at Five Ways Grammar School. With a life-long sense of vocation to the ministry he became an accredited local preacher in 1970. After serving as a nursing orderly from 1970 to 1972 he was accepted as a candidate for the ministry and studied at Wesley College Bristol until 1976. After circuit appointments in Ripley, Derbyshire (1976-81), Bury & Heywood (1981-88), Bramhall (1988-96), North Shields & Whitley Bay (Cullercoats) (1996-2001), he was appointed Chair of the Newcastle-upon-Tyne District in 2001. He was elected President] of the [[Entry:677 Conference in 2011. He served on the Faith and Order Committee (1998-2004) and the Committee of Headway (1988-94). In 2012 he became chair of the Ministries Committee. Since 1998 he has been chaplain to the Northern Football League. He has been appointed an Honorary Ecumenical Canon of Newcastle Cathedral.
He published Saints Along the Way in 2014.
