Born at Donhead St. Mary, Wilts., where he attended the WM Sunday School. He became a member at Andover and in the same year a local preacher. Moving to Lincoln in 1867, he went into business as a retail clothier and outfitter, becoming a member at St. Catherine's WM. Elected to Lincoln City Council in 1880, he was mayor in 1885, 1886, 1897, 1898 and 1904. An ardent temperance advocate, he was President of LPMAA. He died at his home on 24 November 1914.
