Evans, John
1723-1817

Calvinistic Methodist preacher, born near Wrexham. He moved to Bala in 1742 and joined the CM society there in 1745. Though soon an exhorter, he was not recognised as a preacher until 1765. Later he was to work closely with Thomas Charles and took a leading part in the first CM ordination service in 1811. He translated three of Wesley's publications into Welsh: Primitive Physick in 1759, and the Rules of the United Societies and the Short Account...of Nathaniel Othen in 1761.
