UMFC minister, born in Salford. Most of his ministry was spent in the North, including some leading circuits (e.g.Sheffield (Hanover)), 1876-1889. He was President of the 1873 Conference and held various offices, including that of Missionary Secretary from 1881 to 1888. He died in Manchester in 1908. His son of the same name compiled a School Hymnal Tune Book (1882).
