Sawday, George William
1854-1944; e.m. 1875

WM missionary in India, was born in Sidmouth on 10 March 1854 and trained at Headingley College. Except for six years (1894-1899) his whole ministry was spent in the Mysore District, as Superintendent of the Tumkur Circuit (18 years) and of the Mysore District (32 years). He founded the Holdsworth Memorial Hospital in Mysore City and built chapels and schools in many towns and villages. Retiring in 1932, he died in Mysore City on 16 September 1944.
