Born in 1919 at Redruth, he trained for the ministry at Handsworth and Hartley Victoria Colleges. He was blinded and seriously wounded during his service as an army chaplain in World War II and was awarded an MBE in 1944. In 1952 he formed the Guild of Methodist Braillists. Following his retirement, in 1960 he became an Anglican priest and from 1963 to 1973 was vicar of Cricklade.
