Summersides, William
fl. 1822-1840

Pioneed PM preacher in Canada, was called out by the then vast Hull PM Circuit in 1822. It is known that he began the work in Whitehaven in 1823 and in 1825 was in its Westgate Branch. When Conference met at Scotter in 1829 it was agreed to send two each from the Hull and Tunstall Circuits to the American Mission,. He was sent to Philadelphia in 1830, going out with his wife and two children. Then in 1831 he was sent to the Canadian Mission, participating in the opening of Bay Street chapel Toronto, on 21 October 1832 and in 1833 opening up the work around Niagara. He regularly sent reports back to Hull, the home circuit. Returning to Hull in 1839, he soon after ceased to itinerate.
