He became a PM minister in 1851, but after serving in Berwick, Whitehaven and Sunderland Circuits left the itinerancy in 1857 and settled in Manchester, where he became the business manager of the Primitive Methodist World. He was a trustee of Higher Ardwick chapel and was Vice-President of the PM Conference in 1895. For 42 years he preached at the anniversary service at Bowlees in Teesdale.
