One of the last great PM orators,he was born at Woodley near Manchester and trained at Hartley College. He became Connexional Editor (1921-26) and wrote extensively. In 1929 he spoke on 'Pathways of Adventure' as part of a session on 'The Call of Youth' at the Methodist Church Congress, and delivered the Hartley Lecture on Jesus the Reformer. He was President of the PM Conference in 1931. He retired in 1936 and died on 20 January 1967.
